Klinik kullanımı

Olası potansiyel doğum kusurlarını saptamak için kullanılır. Gebe kadınların 2.trimestrlarında standart olarak yapılmaktadır. Bu test AFP, hCG ve östriol testlerini içerir. Bu testler, Down sendromu, nöral tüp defekti veya anensefalili çocuklardaki değişikliği gösterir. Bu testler tarama testleridir. Tanısal değildir! Eğer test sonuçları anormal ise test tekrarlanmalıdır ve amniyosentez yapılmalıdır. Şimdi 4’lü test yapılmakta olup bu daha doğru olabilir. 4. test ise ”Inhibin A” testi olup Down sendromu ile ilişkili bir proteindir.

Referans değerler

NTD (nöral tüp defekti) için 1:1000,

Trizomi 21 için 1:270

Trizomi 18 için 1:100’ün üzerindeki değerler riskli olarak kabul edilir.

Gebe serumunda AFP artışı

-Nöral tüp defektleri (örn.: anensefali, ensefalosel, spina bifida, myelomeningosel),

-Karın duvarı defektleri (örn.: gastroşizis veya omfalosel),

-Multiple gebelik,

-Riskli düşük.

Gebe serumunda AFP azalışı

-Trizomi 21 (Down sendromu),

-Fetal kayıp.
